The quiet doubling of the Hamilton household load

Who actually needs it — a straight answer
Not everyone. A gas-heated bungalow with a gas range and no EV plans lives happily on 100 amps, and an honest load calculation will say so. Two local wrinkles come up constantly. First, overhead vs. underground: much of the lower city and the older Mountain runs overhead drops through mature street trees, and the utility's side of the drop sometimes needs replacing along with your mast — a coordination item the partner electricians handle with Alectra, not a surprise on the day. Second, the half-upgraded house: plenty of Hamilton homes got a 100-amp breaker panel in the 1980s or 90s while keeping the original 60-amp-era service hardware outside.
